How Often Should an Office Be Cleaned in 2026?

Office cleaning frequency is a cost question, not a hygiene question — because hygiene is non-negotiable. Here is how we calibrate a schedule to team size and layout.

Every office owner asks some version of: "Do we really need the cleaners every day?" The honest answer — it depends on three variables. Team density, foot traffic from visitors, and whether bathrooms are private or shared. Here is the calibration we use.

The frequency matrix

  • Under 8 staff, no visitors, private bathroom: twice weekly is enough
  • 8–20 staff, occasional visitors, private bathroom: three times weekly
  • 20–50 staff, steady visitor flow, private bathroom: daily bathrooms + kitchen, alternate days for desks
  • 50+ staff, public-facing, shared amenities: daily full service
  • Food-handling environments (cafes, clinics, childcare): daily minimum regardless of size

What changes after COVID but before 2030

Deep cleans every 6–8 weeks are now standard, not optional. They cover items weekly service skips: behind desks, under server racks, inside shared fridges, HVAC vents, carpets extracted. For an average 300m² Canberra office this runs $450–$900 and replaces most of the "why does the office still smell?" complaints by month 3.

Hidden costs cheap cleaners skip

  • Consumables — are soap, paper towel, toilet paper restocked or separate?
  • Rubbish removal — general vs recycling vs organics, who handles overflow?
  • Stocktake of cleaning products — stored on-site vs brought per visit?
  • Lockbox or alarm protocol — how is access managed after hours?
  • Incident log — if something is damaged or unsafe, is it reported in writing?

Recurring vs contract: do you need to sign for 12 months?

No. Month-to-month is reasonable for offices under 50 staff. Longer contracts should only come with price commitment from the cleaner (not just the client), performance SLAs, and a mutual 30-day exit clause. We offer month-to-month by default — contracts are available for clients who want locked rates for tenders or budget cycles.

We walk your office and build a schedule against the frequency matrix above — free, on-site.

Frequently asked

Do you clean outside business hours?

Yes — after-hours (6pm–10pm) and very-early (5am–8am) windows are most common. We use a signed lockbox or alarm-code protocol with a fresh code per client.

Do you supply cleaning products or do we?

We supply commercial-grade products by default, which are billed in the line item. Some clients prefer to stock their own (especially for fragrance-free or eco requirements) — we adapt.
